About Ruth Seaton
My desire is to come alongside families to support your breastfeeding journey. I want to listen to your needs and wants, combine that with my knowledge and experience, and together create a plan that nourishes the whole family.
My professional qualifications include working as a nurse in the USA for 10 years, in the Neonatal ICU and High Risk Obstetrics Clinic. In addition to my certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), I also hold a certification in NICU Nursing & a Masters degree in Nursing Education. My experiences as a nurse have provided me an excellent background in lactation and newborn feeding.
I am a native English speaker.
Breastfeeding
Basics
with Mama Ruth
Lactation Consulting
Breastfeeding Basics is a prenatal breastfeeding preparation class for expectant parents. Join us to learn about the beautiful, though often challenging journey of breastfeeding!
Feeding your baby is one of the largest tasks you will face in the months after your baby is born. Preparation can help you plan for and adjust to the joys and challenges it will bring. In this class, IBCLC Ruth Seaton will discuss everything you need to know to get a smooth start to breastfeeding your baby. We have a small class setting where we can discuss your individual questions, concerns, fears, and probably even some myth busting.
My goal for the class is that you leave with knowledge and confidence to begin breastfeeding when your baby arrives.
Topics include:
- Supplies to have on hand and preparing your space
- The first few days
- The first few weeks
- The rest of the journey
- Pumping
- Weaning
- Common challenges and difficulties
Handouts available to class participants provide information on safe storage of breastmilk, maternal nutrition, and the partner's role.

As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), I follow the WHO Code, which is fully called The International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes. It means that parents should be able to make their own choice for their child's nutrition without influence from commercial parties.
I adhere to the WHO Code in its most comprehensive form. I endorse the WHO Code, which is why I only work with brands & products that also adhere to the WHO Code.
The WHO Code aims to protect and promote breastfeeding, ensure parents receive correct and sufficient information, ensure breastmilk substitutes are used appropriately when necessary, ensure the sale and advertising of baby food and formula are followed.
